Five glorious days with Arts Umbrella, sharing nearly a century of dance experience together!

CCDT’s Artistic Director, Deborah Lundmark, has long known that her company’s soul-mate in dance is Vancouver’s Arts Umbrella Dance, led by Artemis Gordon. In 1979-80, our two organizations were launched within months of each other. Both were founded on the vision of dance as an art form accessible to all. Each modelled artist development toward opening doors to the finest dance ensembles of the day and, to quote our sister organization, both envision a better world where all young lives embrace a lifelong journey towards self-expression and humanity. Together, our award-winning companies share the pleasure of witnessing these extraordinary young artists deeply moving audiences of every age and going on to enrich the world’s leading dance companies and education institutions.

There is only one, very Canadian, challenge to sharing this rich history – some 4,000 kilometers between us, and the consequent very red line in our typically tight dance company budget…
